The ranking member of the committee that oversees the IRS is demanding answers for the administration’s attempt to cancel the NTEU-IRS contract by “trampling the rights of unionized employees.”

In a letter to IRS CEO Frank Bisignano, sent at NTEU’s request, Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-MA) pointed out that the administration’s actions contradict Bisignano’s earlier testimony to the committee and demanded answers about these illegal actions.

“For nearly 90 years (since 1938), the NTEU, or its predecessor, has protected the rights of hundreds of thousands of federal employees to negotiate, take legal action, and advocate for themselves,” the lawmaker wrote. “[T]he Trump Administration cannot unilaterally take away the hard-fought rights of IRS employees to unionize.”
