Excused Absence for Adverse Reaction Due to the COVID-19 Vaccine

The Safer Federal Workforce taskforce has encouraged, and DOI has determined to grant, up to two full workdays of administrative leave (pay code 060) for recovery from an adverse reaction to a COVID-19 vaccine (i.e., no more than two workdays for adverse reactions associated with a single dose) when the adverse reaction prevents the employee from working (including telework). If an employee requests more than 2 workdays to recover, bureaus/offices may make a determination to grant EPL as created by the American Rescue Plan Act –if available-- or other appropriate leave (e.g., sick leave).  Additional information regarding this leave entitlement, including instructions on coding and limitations, can be found in an FAQ on the All DOI Employees COVID-19 Information Portal.
