NTEU Supports Senators’ Call for Maximum Telework
A group of 22 senators, led by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), wrote a letter advocating for a provision in the next coronavirus relief bill requiring maximum telework for federal employees during the pandemic. “As new waves of COVID-19 cases continue to hit areas across the country, it is especially important for federal agencies to have a clear mandate that sets a positive example for employers to keep their workforces and communities safe,” the group of lawmakers wrote to Senate leaders Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer. Since March, NTEU has encouraged full expansion of existing telework programs to limit community spread of coronavirus. “Make no mistake, both managers and frontline employees are relying upon telework to protect themselves and their coworkers, and there is no reason to abandon it now,” National President Tony Reardon said. “There will come a time when we are ready to return to normal operations in the federal workplace. This is not it.” |
