Senate Committee Advances Bill Increasing Survivor Benefits
Survivors of federal employees killed on the job would receive increased death benefits under legislation that now moves to the full Senate floor for consideration.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted last week to advance the Honoring Civil Servants Killed in the Line of Duty Act, which would increase death gratuity payments from $10,000 to $100,000 and increase funeral expenses from $800 to $8,800.
NTEU supports this bill (S. 3029), which makes long overdue and significant updates to survivor benefits. A bipartisan companion bill was introduced in the House earlier this month.
