Despite Setback, NTEU Continues to Fight for Fired Employees Judge denies emergency request to temporarily stop mass removal of federal employees; case continues to next phase. Last week, an NTEU-led coalition of unions representing hundreds of thousands of employees filed a lawsuit challenging the administration’s efforts to break the government. The coalition on Friday filed for a temporary restraining order to stop the administration from firing probationary and “non-essential” employees and any further extension of the deferred resignation program. The judge held a hearing on the coalition’s request on Tuesday afternoon. Although the coalition made a strong case of immediate harm, the judge today unfortunately denied the request for emergency relief. This is not the end of the fight by any stretch; it is only a temporary setback. We will continue to press our case in court and will soon begin additional counterattacks through other means. We will keep you informed as litigation continues. We will not give up! Support one another and stay strong as we work together to protect every federal employee from these unwarranted attacks. |
