    Federal Judge Temporarily Halts RIFs

A federal judge in California on Friday called for a two-week pause in the administration’s plans for mass layoffs and program closures—calling the actions illegal without congressional authorization.

A coalition of labor unions, nonprofits and local governments filed a lawsuit arguing that the president’s efforts to "radically restructure and dismantle the federal government" without any authorization from Congress violate the Constitution.

"To make large-scale overhauls of federal agencies," the judge wrote in her ruling Friday evening, "any president must enlist the help of his co-equal branch and partner, the Congress."

NTEU congratulates our union brothers and sisters on this important victory. This ruling sends a clear message: no administration is above the law.

Honoring Our Federal Law Enforcement Officers

In honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day on Thursday and National Police Week, NTEU acknowledges the federal employees who, in addition to being civil servants, carry the distinction of Law Enforcement Officer.

Those NTEU members who swear an oath to protect and serve, wear the uniform and carry the badge for Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, National Park Service and Department of Defense bravely face danger on any given day on the job.

This week is set aside to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. NTEU expresses our deepest appreciation to all law enforcement for their courage and commitment to protecting others, no matter the cost.

NTEU in the News: Clip of the Week

Chapter 282 (FDA Headquarters) President Anthony Lee spoke to National Public Radio about the union’s fight to protect federal employees' collective bargaining rights against the administration's ongoing attacks.

"Even our ability to exist in the federal workplace—to be able to represent employees—is threatened by this administration," he said.
