Supreme Court Pauses Emergency Relief on Mass RIFs
The Supreme Court has issued a "stay"—or pause—on the emergency relief that a federal district court issued against the President's Executive Order directing mass reductions-in-force. That emergency relief had been keeping many agencies—including many NTEU-represented agencies—from implementing their planned RIFs and reorganizations. Now that the emergency relief has been paused, agencies might re-start their RIF processes. Prior to the emergency relief being issued, several NTEU-represented agencies were in various stages of planning for a potential RIF. Some had simply emailed employees about preparations they should take to get their personnel documents in order. Others had gone so far as to issue RIF notices with future separation dates that were paused due to the emergency relief. With that emergency relief no longer in effect, NTEU is fully prepared to resume all preparations and planning it has undertaken to fight back against unjust and senseless RIFs. As we learn additional specific information from our represented agencies, we will get that to you right away. And we will continue to push our lawsuit fighting back against the administration's efforts to dismantle the government through these RIFs, probationary employee mass firings, etc. We are ready to advocate for affected employees on every front available to us. And we have partners ready to lend a hand too. We will be in touch soon with more detailed information. We will be at your side in the next phase of this fight—and every other phase going forward. |
