NTEU Endorses Bill to Shield Federal Employees During Shutdowns
Last week, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) introduced the Federal Worker Credit Protection Act, aimed at shielding federal employees from credit damage during government shutdowns. NTEU strongly endorses this bill, which comes on the heels of the record-breaking 76-day shutdown at the Department of Homeland Security.
The Federal Worker Credit Protection Act would prohibit consumer credit reporting agencies from reporting adverse information on federal workers during a government shutdown and 30 days after. The bill would also allow federal workers to correct adverse information already on their credit reports due to a shutdown and provide a grace period with credit reporting agencies for workers unable to pay bills when not receiving income.
