Update on Government Funding

Before leaving DC for the August district work period, the Senate passed a CR to extend government funding through December 11. Today the Senate passed a continuing resolution on a bipartisan basis to extend government funding through December 11. The bill includes NTEU-supported language that is needed to prevent the FY 2026 enacted rescission of IRA funding from recurring during the period of the CR. The House passed a CR last month, but it was drafted without input from congressional Democrats and introduced before the White House submitted its list of anomalies, or potential requirements necessary to sustain government operations in a CR. The House is expected to consider the Senate CR when it returns from the August recess. Although the beginning of FY 2027 is less than two months away, Congress has made little progress on reaching an agreement on the 12 annual appropriations bills. The House Appropriations Committee has approved all 12 of its bills and the full House has passed three. However, the House bills are largely partisan in nature and would cut funding for many agencies. Meanwhile the Senate Appropriations Committee has not moved any of its bills. Failing to provide timely and adequate funding for federal agencies and programs harms the delivery of critical government services that Americans rely on.
