  • 1% pay raise tables
    Posted On: Jan 05, 2021

SUMMARY:  The administration has issued an Executive Order implementing the 1 percent pay raise for the General Schedule federal workforce (pay tables are included).

The White House has issued the Executive Order (EO) implementing the 1 percent pay increase for General Schedule (GS) federal employees for calendar year 2021. These new pay rates will be effective in the first pay period of 2021.

The new 2021 General Schedule pay tables from OPM are attached and can also be found on the OPM website at https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/2021/general-schedule/. The pay tables are specific for each designated locality pay area (and RUS).

While this pay raise is certainly not as much as federal workers deserve, NTEU is pleased that Congress rejected the Senate’s proposed pay freeze, which the White House supported, and that the President has implemented the 1 percent increase he announced earlier in 2020.  NTEU strongly objected to the proposed pay freeze and fought to ensure that employees received a pay increase in recognition of their hard work.  Federal employees have been on the job throughout the pandemic, sometimes at great personal risk to themselves and their families, because their jobs are essential to delivering important services to the American public. As the new administration begins and we turn to the FY 2022 appropriations, NTEU will continue the fight for fair pay for all federal employees.

In addition, since I know many of you are wondering, I wanted to provide a quick update on the status of the provision allowing federal employees to carryover an additional 60 hours of annual leave into 2021.  Earlier this week, the House voted to override the President’s veto of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes this provision.  The Senate is also expected to vote to override the veto, but the vote has been delayed due to discussions about the $2000 stimulus payments that were passed by the House.  A vote to override the veto is still expected soon and we will keep you updated as things develop.
