SUMMARY: OPM released the 2024 Carrier Letter for FEHB participants, instructing plans to expand fertility coverage. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has published the annual Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) Program Carrier Letter for 2024. One of the most significant changes federal employees can expect next year is an expansion of fertility benefits. The letter says that FEHB Carriers are required to provide coverage of artificial insemination, to cover drugs associated with artificial insemination procedures and to cover the cost of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)-related drugs for three cycles each year. Previously, FEHB plans covered the diagnosis and treatment of infertility but did not provide coverage for “assisted reproductive technologies” or other fertility-related procedures. This expansion of benefits is a welcome change that will ease the cost burden federal workers face when undergoing family planning services. A copy of the full 2024 Carrier Letter can be found here. |
