President Signs Debt Ceiling Legislation, Avoiding Default

President Biden on Saturday signed H.R. 3746, suspending the debt ceiling until January 2025, and avoiding a catastrophic default. The legislation cleared Congress Thursday night.  

House and Senate Appropriations Committees will now begin working on the 12 appropriations bills based on the funding levels in the agreement. This includes agency allocations and possibly language regarding a 2024 pay increase. Stay tuned for updates as the bills are released.

NTEU supports the FAIR Act to provide an average 8.7 percent pay raise next year and will fight any additional attempts to target funding at the IRS and other agencies where we represent employees.
