Congress Slowly Moving Appropriations Bills The House and Senate are slowly moving funding bills as the next funding deadline approaches. The current continuing resolution (CR) expires on Nov. 17. The Senate is currently considering a minibus appropriations package with funding levels that are consistent with those in the debt limit deal that passed earlier this year. The funding package passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee on a strong bipartisan basis. In the House, newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) voiced support for a CR with "certain conditions" through mid-January or mid-April to give lawmakers more time to negotiate 12 separate funding bills. To date, the House has passed four of the 12 appropriations bills. However, due to significant funding cuts that go beyond those in the debt limit agreement and controversial policy riders, the bills have had very little bipartisan support. NTEU will continue to press lawmakers to avoid a government shutdown and provide adequate funding for our agencies in a final funding agreement. Learn more |
