House Passes Ban on Future Schedule F Attempts The House passed an NTEU-supported provision in the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would prevent any future president from unilaterally implementing a new Schedule F classification, similar to an attempt by the previous administration. If implemented, Schedule F could have forced tens of thousands of frontline federal employees to lose their civil service protections, allowing them to be hired or fired at will, with no cause and no due process. While President Biden revoked that executive order upon taking office, Congress must act to prevent future administrations from issuing a similar Schedule F executive order. NTEU has strongly opposed Schedule F. The union filed a lawsuit challenging the order after it was issued and has been working closely with members of Congress to prevent Schedule F from ever being implemented. NTEU will advocate for this bipartisan amendment to be included in the final version of the NDAA. |
