President Announces Plans for Average 2.7 Percent Pay Raise in 2022 Last week, President Biden formally announced his plans to give federal employees an average 2.7 percent pay increase in 2022 which includes 2.2 percent across the board and 0.5 percent for locality pay. NTEU appreciates President Biden’s desire to give federal employees a pay raise that includes locality pay but believes that an average 3.2 percent increase is merited. “Federal employee pay increases have lagged for years and there is still a very real gap between federal pay and comparable positions in the private sector,” said National President Tony Reardon. “According to the Federal Salary Council, federal employees are paid 23.11 percent less than their private sector counterparts.” The issue of a 2022 pay raise is not a done deal. NTEU continues to urge Congress to implement an average 2.2 percent increase across the board, plus a 1 percent boost toward locality pay, as called for in the FAIR Act legislation introduced earlier this year. |
