Legislation Introduced to Prevent Government Shutdowns

Legislation was introduced last week that aims to prevent future government shutdowns.

The End Shutdowns Act, introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), would initiate an automatic continuing resolution by the Oct. 1 start of a new fiscal year if no appropriations bill is passed by then. The bill would also prevent the Senate from moving forward with any non-emergency legislation until Congress reaches an agreement on long-term spending.

As the clock ticks to the Sept. 30 funding deadline, NTEU continues to urge Congress to provide adequate, full-year funding for agencies and avoid a government shutdown. We will keep you updated on developments.
