White House Supports Expansion of Childcare Subsidies

NTEU strongly supports today’s announcement from the administration directing federal agencies to review all opportunities for expanding access to childcare support for federal workers.

The union has a long history of negotiating childcare subsidy programs as part of NTEU contracts to help employees facing rising costs for daycare. As part of today’s order, the Office of Personnel Management will conduct a review of childcare subsidy policy and consider setting standards for agencies to follow in establishing new programs or altering existing ones. NTEU will seek the broadest expansion possible.

The White House notes that childcare costs have risen 26 percent during the last decade.
