Paid Parental Bereavement Leave, Debt Ceiling Resolution Move Forward All federal employees would have access to two weeks of paid parental bereavement leave under legislation that passed the House last week. The provision, which NTEU endorsed, is contained in the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act and is expected to pass the Senate this week. The bereavement leave would give civilian federal workers and military servicemembers up to 14 days of paid leave in the event of the death of their child. Separately, the Senate voted today on legislation to lift the debt ceiling, one day before the deadline Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen set for Congress to prevent a default. Last week, Congress approved legislation to make it easier to pass increasing the debt ceiling to a level that will extend the limit into 2023. The House may approve the measure as early as this evening. |
