IRS Employees Committed to Historic Agency Rebuild

President Biden today signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act containing a historic 10-year, $80 billion investment in the IRS. 

NTEU and several IRS watchdogs have documented the damage caused when the agency lost 20 percent of its budget and workforce from 2010-2020: taxpayer phone calls that went unanswered, backlogs in taxpayer correspondence, and a fast-growing gap in the amount of taxes owed under the law and taxes actually collected. 

"NTEU and the frontline employees we represent stand ready to assist IRS leadership rebuild," National President Tony Reardon said. He also disputed claims that the additional funding will double the size of the IRS and build an "army" of agents to target law-abiding taxpayers.
