Raise Mileage Reimbursements, NTEU Says With gas prices reaching record highs, the mileage reimbursement rate is inadequate for federal employees who must use their personal vehicles for work. “Given the current situation, I urge you to make a mid-year adjustment to the mileage reimbursement rate this year to reflect the actual costs an employee will pay to operate their privately owned vehicle while traveling to perform official business,” National President Tony Reardon wrote to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig. In past years when there have been significant increases in gas prices, the IRS has made a mid-year adjustment. The General Services Administration has the authority to set the mileage reimbursement for federal employees up to the rate set by the IRS. |
