House and Senate No Closer to Funding Deal

House and Senate No Closer to Funding Deal Government funding expires next Friday, Nov. 17, and Congress isn’t any closer to reaching a deal. Although the House and Senate have continued to work on appropriations bills, they have done so at strikingly different funding levels. The bills passed in the Senate reflect spending levels agreed to under the May deal to raise the debt ceiling and are bipartisan. The House bills propose steep cuts to funding that are far below agreed-upon levels, passing the House largely along party lines and are unlikely to pass the Senate. NTEU will continue to press lawmakers to avoid a government shutdown and provide adequate funding for our agencies in a final funding agreement. If there is a government shutdown, NTEU will need to communicate with members using personal email addresses. Be sure we can reach you by updating your contact information on NTEU.org.
