Latest OPM Study Shows Benefits of Telework

The latest report on telework in the federal government reinforces what NTEU has been saying about the program for years at the bargaining table and in testimony before Congress: it’s good for agencies and their employees.

The Office of Personnel Management report covers fiscal year 2022, when many agencies went from maximum telework to starting to return employees to the office post-pandemic. OPM Director Kiran Ahuja noted that while the data may not fully reflect the current state of telework, the report offers considerations for the future of the program including:

    • Employees who telework and those who choose not to have comparable levels of engagement.
    • Telework helps employee retention.
    • Higher levels of work-life balance increased employee productivity.

NTEU will continue working to protect and expand telework programs at agencies where we represent employees.
