NTEU Presses for Higher 2023 Pay Raise

NTEU is urging President Biden to increase his proposed pay adjustment for 2023 to an average 5.1 percent due to inflation and the tight labor market.

“Lagging federal pay rates have taken their toll on federal employees and their families over the last few years, with their pay raises trailing increases to private sector wages,” National President Tony Reardon wrote Thursday in a letter to the president. “Like all American workers, federal employees face ever-increasing costs for their utilities, health care, food, housing and education.”

Reardon reiterated NTEU’s support for the FAIR Act, legislation in the House and Senate providing a 4.1 percent across-the-board increase plus 1 percent for locality pay.

Earlier this year, the White House released its 2023 budget blueprint calling for an average 4.6 percent pay increase.
