NTEU Welcomes New Task Force Supporting Unions, Collective Bargaining
President Biden yesterday signed an executive order to “encourage worker organizing and collective bargaining and to promote equality of bargaining power between employers and employees.”
The order establishes a task force, which will be chaired by Vice President Kamala Harris, vice-chaired by Labor Secretary Marty Walsh and comprised of more than 20 federal agency heads. The group is responsible for making recommendations on policies, practices and programs that could be used to support employee organizing and collective bargaining.
NTEU supports a proactive approach to worker organizing and the focus of the task force on supporting collective bargaining in a way that benefits both workers and their employers.
"In the federal sector, especially, strong contracts that are bargained in good faith are essential to federal agencies accomplishing their important missions,” said National President Tony Reardon, "and the federal government can and should lead by example."
