Federal Employees Face Increased Costs for Health Insurance

Health insurance premiums under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program will increase an average 8.7 percent in 2023, according to the Office of Personnel Management. Open season to re-enroll or change your health insurance for next year starts Nov. 14 and goes through Dec. 12.

NTEU members will again have free access to the Consumers’ Checkbook Online Guide to Health Plans for Federal Employees and Annuitants. This online tool helps you choose the right health care plan by comparing costs, looking at quality ratings, and examining flexibility on issues like choice of doctors.

We encourage you to use the opportunity to evaluate your options to decide which plan is best for you and your family. Watch for details on how to access this benefit closer to the start of open season. Read more

These premium increases underscore the need for a higher pay raise next year and NTEU continues to support legislation providing federal employees with an average 5.1 percent boost in 2023.
