NTEU Endorses Action in Congress to Protect Federal Civil Service There has been a flurry of legislative activity in response to reports that organizations are developing plans that could be used by future administrations to create a new classification of federal workers, called Schedule F, who can be hired and fired at will, and then filling it with party loyalists. The House passed the Preventing a Patronage System Act, introduced by Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), as part of the fiscal 2023 National Defense Authorization Act. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) introduced a companion bill, and Senate appropriators included a ban on Schedule F as part of the Financial Services and General Government spending bill. NTEU has a strong record of fighting to protect the civil service, including a lawsuit to block the 2020 Schedule F executive order issued by the last administration. Read more |
