Lawmakers Begin Work on Continuing Resolution
Congress returns to Capitol Hill with limited time to prevent a government shutdown and federal employees once again face uncertainty as the Sept. 30 deadline approaches. Both chambers are poised to act on a continuing resolution (CR), with the House potentially considering a bill as soon as this week. However, the House bill would extend funding until March 2025 and includes funding cuts and policy riders that make it uncertain to pass the full House. Should it reach the Senate it is unlikely to pass, and President Biden has said he would veto it. NTEU continues to urge Congress to provide adequate, full-year funding for agencies and spare federal employees the constant anxiety of a potential government shutdown. We will keep you updated on developments. |
