Congress Eyeing Continuing Resolution
Both the House and Senate left Washington for the August recess with little progress toward passing the 12 annual appropriations bills that fund the federal government.
House Republicans have passed five spending bills through the House mostly along party-line votes with steep cuts to agencies. Meanwhile, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved all but one appropriations bill generally funding NTEU-represented agencies at the same or slightly higher levels. Appropriators in both chambers remained silent on pay, deferring to the president’s proposal for an average 2 percent pay increase for federal employees in 2025.
When lawmakers return in September, they’ll have a handful of legislative days before the Sept. 30 end of the fiscal year, increasing the likelihood of a continuing resolution. NTEU continues to press lawmakers to provide a fair pay raise and adequate funding to properly staff agencies.
