Members of Congress Urge DOL to Support Terminated Employees
A group of congressmembers sent a letter to the Department of Labor urging the agency to help terminated federal employees receive the unemployment insurance benefits they are entitled to.
Among other requests, the lawmakers asked the agency to issue guidance to state unemployment agencies confirming that the federal government will not challenge claims submitted by terminated probationary employees and coordinate with other federal agencies to ensure that employees are either provided with wage records or have the necessary documents confirmed promptly.
“This is critical both to ensure that workers receive their benefits in a timely manner and to make sure that state offices are able to do the essential work of processing non-federal employee claims, preventing fraud and errors, and recovering past overpayments,” the 33 lawmakers wrote.
NTEU thanks these members of Congress and will continue to fight for our terminated members. |
