NTEU Opposes Legislation Targeting Teleworkers' Locality Pay
Federal employee pay, benefits and your ability to telework are once again being targeted by some in Congress. The Federal Employee Return to Work Act, introduced last week by Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), would require that federal employees who telework at least one day per week receive the “Rest of U.S.” locality pay rate, regardless of where they live and work. It is a companion bill to Senate legislation introduced by Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), who also rolled out a bill to remove locality pay from annuity calculations under the Federal Employees Retirement System for all new federal employees. NTEU strongly opposes these bills that would reduce federal employee benefits, undermine telework and ignore the fact that teleworking employees still report to and live in the locality pay area where their office is located. We will continue to work with our congressional allies to push back against these and any threats to federal employee pay and benefits. |
