NTEU Files Lawsuits to Protect Union Members and Financial Wellbeing of Americans
On Sunday evening, NTEU filed two separate lawsuits to protect our members’ private information and jobs. The first lawsuit is aimed at holding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) accountable for exposing the personal information of CFPB employees to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an act that fundamentally violates the right to privacy of thousands of employees for the agency. In the second lawsuit, NTEU is fighting back against the administration’s efforts to dismantle CFPB and attack our member’s livelihoods. This is a brazen attempt to dissolve an agency that plays a critical role in the lives of the American people. CFPB provides invaluable services to ensure that those who seek to steal from consumers and profit off their financial misfortune are held to account.
Russell Vought, head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Acting Director of CFPB, is on record saying he wants to inflict “trauma” on the federal workforce, and this is exactly what he is trying to do to CFPB employees. The administration—through Vought—has ordered CFPB employees to stop working this week and halt all operations, which is a clear violation of the checks and balances our Constitution established to ensure that one branch of government does not exercise complete, unfettered control over the lives of the American people.
Our members' jobs and privacy are at risk with these actions, but we are fighting back with everything we have. We are standing strong with the more than 1,000 union members at CFPB, their colleagues, and the American people. We ask you to do the same as well. Contact your legislators and let them know that what Vought, DOGE and this administration are doing is wrong. Stand with NTEU members at CFPB by speaking truth to power and holding those in power to account.
To our CFPB NTEU brothers and sisters: We see you and value the work you do. We will stand by you through this fight and the preservation of your rights and a vital agency that serves millions of Americans.
Stay tuned for more information as we push this fight forward.
