NTEU Supports Stronger Employee Heat Protections
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is proposing a rule requiring employers to create ongoing plans to evaluate and control heat hazards in the workplace. NTEU submitted comments supporting OSHA’s proposed rule on heat-related injury and illness. We’ve heard from union members across NTEU who frequently work long hours in grueling, high-heat conditions. Whether you are a National Park Service ranger, a firefighter working for the Bureau of Land Management or working as an officer or specialist at the Department of Homeland Security, this long-overdue rule establishes common-sense, heat-related precautions such as employee access to water, shaded or air-conditioned rest areas and employer training. We urge OSHA to swiftly finalize this rule to improve employee health and safety across the federal government. |
