Probationary Employees - We Will Fight For You!
We will fight for you, utilizing every tool available to us. One of the first actions federal employees take when they begin their careers is to swear an oath to defend the Constitution and faithfully discharge their duties. That loyalty and dedication should be honored and celebrated. Instead, newly hired employees in their probationary period are now worried they will be arbitrarily terminated, not based on their performance, but because of an extreme anti-employee agenda designed to gut federal agencies of the staffing needed to deliver critical services.
Many federal agencies are severely understaffed due to years of frozen budgets or cuts to agency budgets preventing them from replacing retiring employees. Agencies have worked hard to hire new employees to fill these vacancies; they have invested heavily in their training. The American people need federal employees to continue providing services to the public.
We feel deeply the fear and uncertainty probationary employees are facing. They are our colleagues, our friends, our family, and our partners in maintaining a dedicated civil service that delivers. We know the value they provide to the American people. We know that agencies recognize what the devasting impact would be to their missions and government operations if probationary employees are terminated.
For those probationary employees considering resigning, we implore you to stay strong in the face of these relentless attacks. We have your back and will continue to fight for you. For those employees who have passed their probationary periods, we ask you to keep reaching out to your colleagues within their probationary period and let them know you stand with them. Give them your support and encouragement. Let them know how much you value them and their contributions.
We thank every single probationary employee who has shared their concerns and questions with us. We hear those concerns, and we are so grateful to you for the extraordinary work you continue to do for America under very trying circumstances. We ask you continue to reach out to your local NTEU chapter with your questions and concerns, and we will send updates to your personal email address as we receive more information.
