The 2026 NTEU Legislative Advisory Committee (LAC) met on Monday, January 12, 2026, to determine the issues NTEU will focus on during the 2026 Legislative Conference and throughout the year.
Given the numerous attacks on the federal workforce, the LAC recommended that the priority for the year should be Preventing the Politicization of the Civil Service by focusing on three main issues:
Defending Workplace Rights (including restoring collective bargaining rights, ensuring union contracts are honored and reinstating AWS and telework programs);
Protecting Pay and Benefits (including protecting and ensuring timely processing of retirement benefits and ensuring fair and equal pay and retirement COLA increases for all employees); and
Fulfilling Agency Missions (including ensuring funding for proper staffing and resources, ending RIFs and other staffing cuts to ensure continuity of government services and retain institutional knowledge and ensuring agencies fulfill their missions as Congress intended).
The LAC is made up of members/representatives from several chapters that NTEU represents.
